Using model organisms as surrogates for your favorite organism

Chance and Necessity has this post today on using drosophila to model parasite infection in mosquitos. It is an interesting post that outlines a paper that properly used the model system (drosophila) to search for candidate genes involved in some process, that they then tested in the original system (Anopheles).
